can some1 tell me if there is a hot deal on hds right now?

---

Hi FinalLast,

Welcome to AnandTech. I know you are new to our forums, so I wanted to let you know that in Hot Deals, new threads are for posting the deals you have found. Please post your comments in the appropriate moderator sponsored thread:

~~~~ IWANNA ~~~~ to ask for hot deals on the items you want.
~~~~ How Do I ~~~~ to ask how to price match, etc.
~~~~ Brag & Moan ~~~~ to rave about your great experience or complain about how badly you were treated.
I hope you find the deals you want. While you are at it, you might want to visit some of our sixteen other forums devoted to computers. You can find out how to get the most from your machine or just how to solve some problem you have been having.
Thank you,
AnandTech Moderator
Hmm...perhaps it's just Anandtech's Hot Deal Community is getting nicer. Or is this just wishful thinking? ;)
The best deal right now is the 30GB Quantum Fireball Plus AS 7200rpm ATA/100 drive at buy.com.
It's $128.95 w/a
$30 mail in rebate
And if you add $22 more dollars to your purchase to get to the $150 mark buy.com will give you another $30 off so your grand total will be around $90.
I bought the drive along with the Microsoft wheel mouse optical ($22) and the grand total was around $96 after shipping. Killer deal if you ask me.
I don't know if it's still going on but on Tuesday I bought 2 Maxtor 30.0gb 7200rpm ATA100 HD's for 109.97 each from Best Buy (B&M).
RAID0 here I come!
Staples has a Maxtor 20GB for $99.95. Add something to get the total over $100 and use one of the ubiquitous $30 off $100 and get free shipping. Final cost to me, even with WA tax, was around $75. While this drive is "only" 5,400 rpm, it is still very fast.
Compare this to the price many places charge for used and refurbished 8GB drives, and this deal looks outstanding.
SimMike2 --
You may have saved the thread.
That $70 plus tax job looks tasty. I was looking for a drive around there to use as a Ghost backup to my 2x 45g IBM 75gxp raid0 array. (Some of the size of the raid0 array is for video and photo editing of stuff that won't stay on the HDD but will instead get written off to tape or burned on CDR's, at least as backup. And some of it is just ridiculous room to grow, since I got em cheap w/coupons. :D)
I'll mushroom beyond the 20 gig for (compressed) Ghost backup eventually, but by then drives will be much cheaper, and maybe this will go into a server case in a raid array eventually or something ... Or maybe I should look for a cheap 40gb 5200 drive ...
