Harddrive troubles.......

One of my friends brought his computer over since it would not boot. I believe it is the harddrive. I took the HDD out, and stuck it in my external enclosure. It spins up, and it was recognized by Windows. It shows in Device Manager, but not in My Computer or in Disk Management (Administrative Tools)

I then stuck it in my backup machine. It is recognized in BIOS, but when I try to load XP on it, it basically says that no harddrive is present. Tried it with a Win98 startup disk (in another machine), and same issue.

I was finally able to use WD Diagnostics on the drive. I set it up as a slave, and Diagnostics gave me the following info:
Error code 0458.
Identified Data Not Found. Ten or more instances of information on data positioning and location could not be found. Drive should be replaced.

Is there any way to recover the data on the drive. It is out of warranty, but the data on there is still important.

I regret to say this, but unless you got some big cash, no. More than likely it will cost more to retrieve the data on the HD than to buy a new drive, and your chances of actually getting it are slim. When it comes to hard drives, 99.9% of the time, if its dead, RMA it, or trash it and get a new one.
