Harddrive Serial No.

Hi,
Is there anyone who can tell me how to edit the serail no of the harddrive. I bought a software from Hong Kong which remembers the serial no of the harddrive. If I format my drive again, I have to contact the vendor for a patch. I am afraid that one day I will not be able to use the software if the vendor fails to support it. The vendor is only a small scale company.
Thanks
fhui.

It would be easier to find where the software saves the hd serial number and change it there if necessary. You will need a hex editor such as comes with Norton Utils to do it. I can't imagine why you couldn't install it as often as you want to the same hard drive if the hard drive serial number is actually the key. Format doesn't change the serial number. If it's really the Id. number that MS Format puts on the drive that is the key, then you can use Norton's hex editor to change that to the same one you have now as well. How can the install program for application remember the serial number anyway, did it come on floppies?

Hi Zepper,
Thank you for your hint. I will try to find where it stores the serial no. I am sorry that I have made a mistake. The program comes in floppies. It remembers the volume serial no. of the hd. This no. Changes every time after formatting.
