Harddrive?s becoming severely fragmented very quickly?

I did a fresh XP Pro install last weekend and since then all 3 of my SCSI harddrives have become ?severely fragmented? according to Diskeeper on a daily basis.

I have had XP running with these hard drives since last August and maybe had to do a full defrag 6 or 7 times on them even then they were not that bad. Is there anything I might have done, turned on or off in XP that would cause this mass fragmentation phenomenon?

Thanks for any help

Severely defragmented? Awesome! You'll never have to run defrag utilities, and youve broken the Second law of thermodynamics. Good job. :| The egg I ate for breakfast just came back together. On the plus side, your HD is now a pweretual motion machine. 😀

I believe you mean they became fragmented quickly. 🙂

Anyway, I don't think it's too much to worry about, run the defrag utility again in a few weeks. If it's still fragmented, run defrag again and don't worry about it. I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. I ran defrag for the first time in 4 years last weekend and it made no huge diff.

To be Completly honest, I really would not worry that much, HDs have gotten fast enought the Defraging it really does not make much of a speed diffrence. Just run Defrag every so often and dont worry about it.

Yeah, me too. My 15k Cheetah defragments so quickly it's over before I can return from the refrigerator with the cold pizza sometimes 🙁

Yes fragmented very quickly is what I ment.

As far as mountain out of a mole hill, what I am experiencing is not normal, my system become sluggish and when I have Diskkeeper analyze my hard drive, and look at the fragmented hard drive maps they are over 90% RED and it happens on all three drives and on a daily basis.

Yes NTFS;

I will try putting the sawpfile in its own partition, I did not have to do this with my prior installation of XP but if there is a chance it will fix it then I will give it a go.

Thanks
