harddrive performance

I just installed a fast, 7200rpm spin UDMA 66,
harddrive in my computer. I thought about keeping
my slow, 5400, UDMA 33, hardrive in it, to use to back up with something like Nortons Ghost......
Question: Can I hook that 4.3gb up as a slave to the same IDE controller as the 7200rpm spin harddrive, ( where the OS resides )without hurting performance of the OS? What if I hooked it to the second IDE controller?( the 4.3gb 5400rpm spin drive, along with the cdrom)

It should be happy as the slave as long as you configure it properly. I have a Quatum LM and a Quantum Bigfoot something or other, the LM is 20.5GB, the Bigfoot is 4.3GB... Needless to say, the LM is many times faster 🙂

I didn't notice anything when having the Bigfoot as slave.. I only have one IDE cable, so I have to do it that way.

Should be fine.

Thanks for the tip....I'll try it that way, first( hook the 4.3gb 5400rpm drive as slave on the same IDE controller, with the 7200rpm one as the Primary drive, with the operating system on it).
If it runs fine like that, I will leave it. Sounds like it worked for you 🙂
