Reinstall the OS,this is what happens when you overclock too far ,I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago it`s a real pain but you will learn from experience.Btw probably the harddrive could not handle the overclocked PCI bus speed so it crashed big time.

I've corrupted 3 drives overclocking the PCI bus at speeds ranging from 37.5 MHz to 38.3 MHz.

Two of them were Maxtors and one was a Quantum. My IBM is still running strong (on the same computer as the Quantum and one of the Maxtors).

you did turn it back down right? when trying to overclock my k6/3-400 i would get all those errors at anything over 427 turned it back down and it was just fine. it may well be that your cpu cant do 1ghz or at least more cooling to do it. its best to go slowly, turn it up a notch at a time and see how you do. btw did you ever see the core temp with that p3-700@1ghz?

the best way to save your a*se in these situation is to make images of the hard drive using norton ghost or drive image and put them on CD(s). make those CD's bootable. Then if your HD got problems, then just reformat and restore the images..

I had the same thing happen to my drive when the PCI bus went up to 41MHZ. I turned off the UDMA66 on my Western Digital drive and set it to UDMA33. Reinstalled windows, no more corrupted drive. Maybe you would have similiar results.

kinda like you. before you do somehing that would void most warratnies on items in your comp...you might want the read up on overclocking like i did. i spent about 1 month reading ever freaking relevent post anywhere here or various other forums. let me try to help ya out.

what does that mean? are you asking us what settings to set your computer as? the only way you can know is if you try it yourself.

wut is that? udma66 ?? and wut is udma 33?
wont my harddrives be slow?

he means set it like that so you can run it to reinstall your os. i can't imagine what kind of motherboard you are using so that you can only change your fsb/pci settings by manually physically changing jumpers on your motherboard...you might have to splurge and get a good overclockable motherboard that you can find by asking around or doing a search. i personally recommend the asus cusl2 or the asus p3v4x/cuv4x to overclock. make sure you get some high quality ram. don't go overclocking with your old pc66 ram that you ripped out of your old compaq or something. get something brand name such as mushkin, corsair, micron, crucial, etc. buy pc133 ram. its not that much more expensive and it is guaranteed to run at 133 but most likely will run up to and above 140 if it is indeed good ram.

Norton Ghost is a program which you can buy and then you run it to get a ghost of your current hard drive. you can then use this ghost to copy your hard exactly to a new hard drive or to make bootable cd-roms which you can then use to recover your hard drive and all your files, but it seems it is too late for that. i keep a copy of my primary boot drive with all of my info on a spare 4 gig hard drive which i can always use to boot my machine in case something bad happens.

Keep in mind that this is not a flame. if you would like us to help. you only need to post 1 thread and state the components in your whole system and what did you do last right before it all went bad.
