Harddrive IBM, Maxtor, WD ??? Safe?

I read a lot about IBMs new 60XGP being 'as unstable' as their 75XGP. Anandatech itselves recomends 40GB 60XGP in the budget system but I'm wondering about the safety in this.

Anyone with any experience on the subject?

Also, is it faster than competing drives?
