Harddrive errors installing Win98/ME

I have an old P75 that is giving me some trouble. I am trying to install Windows 98 on it. I can format the drive with a boot disk without a problem. I do an fdisk, remove the partition, add the partition, and format. I have tried using Fat16 and 32. The drive was previously running in another system (days ago). Every time I try to install windows, the drive check finds errors in the FAT, Folders, and a few other places. It fixes them but bombs at the install every time.

I had formatted it before as a 470 meg drive (not thinking) after setting the bios incorrectly and not enabling drives larger than 540 meg. Since then, I've formatted it two or three times. It seems to work fine from the boot disk. I can add/remove directories, copy files, etc. I have not tried copying the windows cd as of yet. (There were some cd-rom problems).

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you try running the drive manufacturers diagnostics on it? Sounds like the drive may be on it's way out. I would have a hard time trusting it at this point, especially since new drives are so cheap anymore.
