Harddrive conflicts

I recently bought a Seagate 160GB SATA harddrive to replace my old IDE harddrives, but I still want to use one of my old IDE harddrives as a second HD. But my problem is when I connect the second harddrive it cause windows to load improperly or it doesnt detect the second harddrive at all. I also have it where it boots from SATA harddrive in the boot sequence and not the IDE harddrive. How do I fix this problem?

My system specs are as follows

XP 2500+
Giga byte GA-7N400 Pro
1gig corsair PC3200 ram
Leadtek A310-TD 256MB FX 5600
Memorex CD-RW
Lite-on DVD burner
Windows XP pro

the 160 gig SATA is set in base mode
and is set as the first boot device actually SCSI is set as the first boot device IE sata drive
and the IDE drive is the only drive on its cable and is in the primary ide slot and the my disk drives are on the secondary ide slot
