Hello there, i just hooked up my computer again, i had previously unhooked the computer to hook up my friends. Well now after i hooked up my computer, i hear a clicking, which i believe is from my harddrive. It also seems to not load up to Windows XP, it just sits at the loading bar.

Is it a Western Digital? If so, I once had a problem with the drive making a "kla-klunk" noise at regular intervals. The fix was to back up the data, run the Data Lifeguard tool available by download, and re-initial the drive, and start from scratch with it. Now it works fine and I still use it daily.

If it's not a WD, please ignore this reply.... :)

Sounds like that drive is toast. It may be possible to get some data off of it once you get your new drive but I wouldn't count on it.

My 40gb WD has been doing the "click..stop..click" for awhile now..say at least off and on for 6 months in two different systems. Mainly seems to do it when running major file moves and unpaking zip/rar files. Other times the system will just freeze and I can't seem to lock it down to anything but the hd. Any ideas?
I'll try that re-initial bit once I get a new drive next week tho.

TIA

i had a western digital hard drive that clicked a lot before.

after a few days, the hard drive wouldn't detect in the bios anymore

your hard drive probably does not click in the bios because the bios does not need to read anything from it.

try to get an RMA if you can!
