I feel I have a problem...

I'm a grown man, who works at an ITS, and I never got rid of my lust for games! I mean seriously I remember back nearly 10 years ago while i was in college I used to wake up on the weekends at 6 am and play doom until 8 pm. I mean my eyes were red and I had a mad headache (probably from the pixelation), and then do it all over again the next week. Sometimes I'd have a paper due the next day and I'd say to myself, " I can stick in a hour of relaxation gaming," then it turned into two.

Now I work for a private firm, and I'm still the same! The only difference is the money to build new comps., a job, a wife, and coke bottle glasses (Thank good for contacts!). I mean I still find cool games to play and I'll go for hours on end sometimes 4 hours at a time, many times during the day! I know I should get a life, but with games like civilization 3 (oh man the original civ was cool with the square cities!), sims, counterstrike, etc. I can't stop myself from playing! I seriously can't, I should probably spend that time with my wife, but when we are fighting or the world's got me down :(, I go to the one thing that loves me and will never turn on me: my computer.

am I a hopeless computer nerd?
am I fallout from society?
What is my problem?
Is there anyone else out there like me? BUMP if so.
should I just shoot myself in the head now?

"I may have coke bottle glasses, but at least I'm still skinny!"

Actually I've done (extensive, expensive:)) research on this phenomenon.

It's called: Video-Games-Are-Really-Fun-But-Everyone-Else-Thinks-I'm-Crazy-Becuase-I'm-Over-12-Years-Old-Itis

Bump for you...

Bump for ya..

Some of us take out our aggression, and emotion on people in the real world... whereas people like us 'nerds' would rather sit down and play a computer game. I'm totally with you. Computer games own :p

I would just say "join the club", but it sounds like you may be the founding father!

I'm the same way. I should be paying bills and doing some fix-it-up type stuff on the house for the guests coming for turkey day, but I'm just about to go play some Castle Wolfenstein!

Nothing wrong with being a hardcore gamer. A good game of Civ III is more thought-provoking and challenging most of the other things I must do in my day. :)

Frankly man if you've got it together enough to hold down a job, and stay married without your wife harping on you TOO much and you're not a 350 lb guy who never does anything don't worry about it.

1) Yes...But you already knew this. And so did your wife when she married you.
2)No, many other people play longer than you.(myself included)
3)Your an Obsessive gamer...get over it or enjoy the he11 out of it.
4)Just about anyone who grew up with Atari and continually bought into the game console market, until PCs came out with better games, then picked up the playstation....etc etc...and on and on...
5)I'm surprised your not already recovering from a head wound your wife gave you for your addiction....unless she is like mine who shares my obsession with me. Thus my creation of the FLGN. Family LAN Gaming Network.

<< unless she is like mine who shares my obsession with me. >>

really? where can I find one of those? :)

Seriously, I know the feeling. I'm in my 5th year of college, for a 4-year degree. Why? Simple. Computer games. Am I proud of it? No, not really. But, I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

As long as you've got it together (family, job, etc), and you're enjoying it, I say keep on keepin' on! :)

It all comes down to this: so long as you're economically and sexually satisfied exactly how you spend the other minutes of the day really doesn't matter!

Thanks guys,

I was feeling kinda alone there, because back at the job everyone wears their black suits with their executive suitcases, I wear the attire too, but no one plays games. They are 100% locked into shop talk, "blah blah fix this command line", "blah blah find me that script", I mean shut up! why can't they talk about fun stuff at the watercooler or the coffee pot? I'm not just talking about video games, I'm talking sports, Jokes, etc. I don't care if you went to Wolfgang Pucks yesterday!

by the way, my wife is ok about me gaming, just not that long. I told her straight out from the start, "I have a problem." Ofcourse she nodded it off, and she gets mad at me still after that 3rd hour, but when the night comes, she still loves me, at least I think :). Thanks guys for sharing your feelings.

!I no longer feel like a lone soul in this universe!

I guess I'm a still that little kid in a 30 year old body, trying to find the thrill of life the easiest way (gaming... guys, you dirty minds) :)

good luck all
