Hard Ware Compatibility => New Rig

Hey guys,

After 4 months of having my computer crap out on me ever week, I'm taking the plunge and building a new rig.

I'm ordering:

AMD Athlon XP 2800 "Barton"
Gigabyte NForce GA-7N400-L
(2) 512 OCX PC-3200

I've done a bit of research, and those are the best parts that I can afford....

Have there been any known problems with any of these combinations?

I'm going to throw in my:
Geforce 4 TI4600 (until I can afford a 6800)
SB Audigy

Also, what is the best CFM : DB ratio on a fan for my HSF?

Thanks a lot, guys!

Jacob

Yes there are. There seems to be a problem with people being amazed at the speed of the system, while at the same time, shocked by the low price at which they have gained such performance. 🙂

Consider the AthlonXP Mobile Barton instead of the 2800+.

I use a Panaflo L1A on my Thermalright heatsink.

What he said. Never used an stock-undervolted Barton (basically what mobiles are), but a SLK-900 (or better, and I'd personally go with mounting holes, myself) with a Panaflo L will do the job great. If you don't overvolt much (or if you leave it stock), you can even put a fan controller on that and undervolt the fan and be fine.
