Despite the fact that Intel is happily shipping the highest end Yorkfield 45nm based Core 2 Extreme 9650 for some time, you won't see many other 45nm desktop parts in Q1. According to Intel documents seen by Fudzilla only two percent of total shipment of total consumer CPU shipment will be Intel Core 2 Quad 45nm based.

Another three percent will be the market share of 45nm based Core 2 Duo 45nm processors. Core 2 Duo 65nm based dual cores should take 42 percent of total market while quad core 65 nm are five percent of total consumer CPU production.

E2000 series of Dual cores are 29 percent of total shipments in Q1 while Celeron 400 series are 14 percent of total consumer CPU shipment in Q1 2008. Smaller than you expected isn?t it.

Q1 2008 Processer Shipments:

42% 65nm Conroe/Allendale
29% 65nm E2000 series
14% 65nm Celeron 400
5% 65nm Quad core
3% 45nm Wolfdale
2% 45nm Yorkfield

-------------------------------------------------

Talk about a soft launch! Only 3% of 1st quarter shipments will be the E8000 series Wolfdales. I guess Intel is holding back on mass shipments of the Wolfdales and Yorkdales until they can clear out the existing inventory of 65nm processors already in the system...with little price reductions...especially with little competitin from AMD.

which means when translated .. upgrade this Summer if you want choice and a discount. ;)

i guess i better get my e4300 up to 3.5 Ghz [and it's gonna be harder with my now crowded case]
- i just got CrossFired HD2900s and 3.15 Ghz is probably a little slow :p

Well that is kinda obvious... how many people have 1200$ to drop on a core 2 extreme? more people will buy them when non extreme versions would be available in reasonable prices.

Summer, exactly the time I was thinking about upgrading, right after I get my taxes back.

I've already got my E8400.. which will be the last processor I buy until Nehalem.

Is Intel perhaps having production issues with the 45nm, hence the slow ramp? Or do they just want to clear out existing 65nm inventory?

If there's going to be a market shortage of 45nm chips, then prices are going to remain high (read: gouged) for them.

Presumably the numbers include the 69 billion CPUs shipped to HP/Compaq, Dell, etc for pre-built computers. That'll sop up a lot of Celerons/Pentium Dual-cores, and Conroe/Allendales.

Oh goody, Fudzilla numbers!

Seriously, I should start up a rumor website and make shit up too.

3% in the first quarter. Thats Good.

Lets say that total processors sold in 1st quarter is 1 million units (just example I know its higher.

Lets give intel 75% maket share and amd 25% .

SO in first qt. Intel 65nm = 720,000 units.

Intel 45nm= 30,000 units

AMD 90nm/65nm= 250,000 units.

So lets say 10,000,000 total units are sold . just add a zero to all figures.

So 300,000 units in the first quarter. I find that a little hard to believe. Considering . All things . Isn't D1 the only fab up and running or is the arizona fab running?

I believe he was referring to scaling from 1 million units to 10 million units: a factor of 10.

Thanks,
