I have used Ghost in the past and have had mixed luck being able to create a image directly to my DVD external drive. One of the main reasons I got a external is because of the 5 computers I have in my computer room. I have a stack of DVDRW's that I like to use to make images after a clean fresh install and later down the road once all the games and apps are install. Usually I will just make a image to the storage hard drive if I can't back up to DVD then just burn the raw files onto a DVD using Nero, still it makes 2 extra steps. Basically I have my new laptop completed installed with all my apps ,games, passwords and I need to be able to back it up so if it goes down I get quickly restore it so I can get back to work with it. I have the newest Ghost and Drive Image 7. I just used DI7 for the first time and loved it, loved being able to back up in XP. Took a little long but o well, it was even easier than Ghost, but when I tried to back up same image to DVD Lite ON drive, nope after 2 DVDRW's I get a error, image did not complete succesfully. Then I tried to use DVDr's that I use for DVD shrink, it burned 5 of them then on the 6th I got the same error. Any ideas or tricks?

1.) What is the best proven way to back up hard drive image directly onto a external DVD burner.

PS I have the latest firmware for the burner. Much THANKS! :)

I found a way on Symantecs websites to use drive image to burn through a workgroup, so I set it up after a couple reinstalls I got it right and started the long back up process, when i woke up 10mins I checked it and this is what I got. I believe it is the same error screen I get with both DVDrw's and DVDr's.
Backup of C:\ did not complete successfully.

What does sound like to you? Bad hard drive or sectors? Should I use DriveFitness Test on it?
