hard system lock

hi

My computer occasionally locks up. Usually it happens after I've played a game (tfc) for a few hours. The symptoms are: HD light stays on, video signal is off (monitor light flashes), power button/reset button do not work. I have to shut off power via the power switch on the back of the computer

It doesn't happen very often but when it does it's really annoying.

Any ideas?

specs:

950mhz tbird
msi k7t pro2-a mobo
512mb sdram pc133
gf4 ti4200
ibm 75gxp + liteon cdrw + maxtor

the maxtor is new, but adding it did not affect the problem

Ok, the obligatory question, how are your temps? More importantly, what kind of psu you have? how much wattage. My guess is that it is probably a funky powersupply.

PS. I am guessing you've tried a reinstall of tfc, right?

Sounds like heat.

1. If you're overclocking... knock it down a couple notches (especially volts)
2. Clean out your case and fans of dust and debris
3. most likely hot components: video card, CPU, PSU (a clogged or failing fan perhaps)
4. If you're overclocking... knock it down a couple notches (especially volts)
