Hello all,

Here are the specs:

-Abit Nf2 ultra
-Barton 3200+
-768MB Corsair XMS pc3700
-Antec true 380
-80 GB WD
-160GB WD
-Radeon Xtsay 9550 (no idea)

So the person who owns this pc told me they were getting "memory errors" in World of Warcraft along with random cold crashes (i.e. no reboots).

Now most Memory problems cause a restart to occur. This just crashes hard from whatever it is doing.

---It will not restart unless you unplug the power supply and re-plug it in----

Now it had a $15 psu before but now I've put in the Antec true 380. Still the same symptoms.

Memtest passes various parts but has not completed a full run yet (tried 3 times).

I'm leaning toward motherboard or RAM. the only reason I'm leaning more towards Mobo is every ram related problem i've had prior dealt with reboots and not hard cold crashes.

Ideas?

It won't restart if you hold the power button down to turn it off then turn it back on? You have to actually unplug it?

Normally this happens when a PSU gets shorted out by something....it won't turn back on unless you unplug. But...it also should shut everything down period, not leave it running. So...anyway.

Any repeating sounds? Could be soundcard if it's a creative. Could be RAM, Mobo, Video Card...even could be CPU. Hard to say without more info.

Tried one ram stick individually in all 3 slots. 2 of the ones that were in the pc and then 1 that is known good.

Same hard crash during memtest.

The audio is onboard.

No repeating sounds. The mobo power LED remains on during the hard crash but you do have to unplug and replug to get it to work.

I am leaning towards something shorting out the motherboard. I cannot notice anything that would do so however. Any other ideas?

Leaning towards motherboard now. Trying to swap video card next and run the memtest..
