Hard starting Ford V-10

Howdy. First time posting, and looking for some ideas. I have a 2001 F250, with a 6.8 V-10. Truck sat, barely used for a couple of years, with a 1/4 tank of gas in it with fuel additive. Truck started right up as normal. I had a hard time making it up a hill to put in the garage for front wheel bearing replacements. Mechanic said it was out of gas, and is why we had to push it into his shop. Put 15 gallons of gas in it. It became hard to start. Usually took between 10-15 short cranks to get it started. Once started it idled, and ran fine, as long as I did not get heavy on the gas pedal. Light, slow gas peddle, it ran down the road fine. If I put my foot in it, it was sluggish, rpms dropped but would eventually pick up speed if I let up on the gas pedal. Took it to autozone for a computer check since the CEL came on. Came back mass air sensor. Cleaned it with CRC. While running, I disconnected the mas, and the motor died. Mechanic said that means the mas was working. Going to put it in the shop next month for a complete tune up. Looking for ideas what might be wrong, since this is a small town, and the garages are all suspect...lol

What did you do to prep it before you started it up? (New oil, replace spark plugs, etc.)

Sounds like it could also still be a MAF. Did you clear the code and did it come back?
