Hard Shutdown. underpowered PSU?

sometimes i will get a hard power off. screens turn black, no BSOD, no beeps, nothing. it just shuts down.

i am running a 250w PSU with 2 HDD, PCI vid card and AGP 8x card, and 2 optical drives, Pentium 4 (3.0? GHz), 1GB RAM... (overworked PSU, i know) could this be what is causing the power down's

Underpowere is a good possibility, but heat can also cause that to happen.

Good point about the heat, most likely it's a conjunction of the two (psu and heat) so get a seasonic s12 380w and maybe replace the fans in your case... yate loons and scyhe s-flex are very good. If you feel you need a little more power, get the enhance 5140gh from ewiz. Great deal for $54.
