Hard lock-ups on Ubuntu 8.04....with audio

Out-of-the-blue lock-ups with what sounds like a rat-a-ta-tat-mechanical
sound coming fron my speakers. Basically a rapidly repeating sound.
I had this happen 3-5 times in the week since I have installed Ubuntu 8.04.
Generally it seems to happen when Rhythmbox is running but when I am
running Ubuntu Rhythmbox is always running. It always requires a hard
restart. Anybody know what this might be caused by?

ps It sucks

Its either a driver issue or a driver issue tied to the kernel. Does it happen with 7.10?
Go look in the wiki under (BUGS) known issues and see if that error is due to be patched in the upcoming 8.10 version set to be released October 10th.

You could look around for a better audio driver. Ubuntu Forums as a great resource.
