OK, Right now I have a 120GB western digital HDD, which is IDE. I want to buy a WD Raptor 36.7GB just for games and whatnot. I'll use the 120GB for storage, and the Raptor for games and my OS. Is it possible to run a SATA Raptor and a IDE HDD at the same time? I don't want to buy 2 Raptors and setup a RAID array, just want one for my games. If it is possible, please explain how I would set this type of configuration up. Thanks in advance!

Check your motherboard specs to see what it can accept. If you do not have a manual on it - the web site for your motherboard maker should.

it can accept both types of drives, but I looked around and don't see a IDE/SATA drive together in too many configurations. I was just wondering if it was possible to set that up, or if there might be some type of conflict.

Check in your motherboard manual - if you do not have one then go to Asus web site to download one.

all it tells is how to setup a RAID array, and i dont want an array, just a single raptor drive.

Short version: Yes it can.

Long version: I have yet to see a motherboard that -can't- run SATA and PATA drives simultaneously. It is possible - it would be a severe bug in the silicon - but I've never actually seen the problem crop up.

OK, thank you. Any idea where I can find a guide for setting up a SATA drive? I've been looking for a guide, but haven't been successful in finding one. I know it requires a floppy either during or after the installation of the OS.

Setting up one?

Uhh....

Plug in the SATA cables, plug in the power, and you should be good to go?

If you are installing WinXP on the Raptor, just hit f6 on the screen it asks, and install the driver diskette the mobo should have included for the SATA stuff.

OK, thanks. Do you think I should leave out the other IDE HD while I install the OS on the raptor, then add it after I have everything up and running? Or do you think just setting the boot sequence to the raptor first in the BIOS should be ok?

Thanks, I guess installing a SATA drive is easier than I expected, from what I heard there were more steps to go through.
