Hard drives set up

I was wondering what the best way to set up my hard drives to make my system the most efficient. currently, i have x 150 gig Sata II 7200 rpm hard drives set up in a striping raid. I also have a 320 gig hard drive with most of my files. although i do install programs and keeps files on the main array. i heard if you install programs on one hard drive and keep the saved content on another the system will be faster? also i like to re format system a few times a year to keep it clean and fast running. also i've beenign thinkin of goin to 10000 rpm hard drives, possibly the 2 36 gig ones and raiding that and keeping most of my files on the 320 gig hard drive. is this a better way of going about things?
 
1. Use 1 74GB 16MB Cache Raptor drive for the OS, Programs, etc..
2. Buy a 2nd 320GB hard drive and use RAID 1 for data backup.
3. If you're a real data wh0r3. Copy data to the 150's individually for extra data backup. 😛

so gettin 1 74 gig 10000 rpm is more ideal then 2 34 10000 rpm in a stripin raid?
i've never done a raid 1 for back ups, will that help me for when i format my computer? i do it quite often
 
RAID 1 is mirroring data on two disks. It means that when your hard drive dies you have an identical, working backup. It is much more reliable than RAID 0, as with RAID 0 only 1 of 2 disks in the array needs to fail for all the data to be lost whereas both disks would need to crash.

hmm k gonna take a while to transfer all data, i gots a ton! hah. will the performance be very noticeable? my friend 10000rpm's aren't that much noticeable then 7200's only in some games and such, is he wrong
