I have a Quantum 30 Gig Fireball AS and an IBM 60gxp, and they are right next to each other, but ... the problem is

they run REALLY hot, I mean like OUCH when you touch it. Is this a problem ? Will this damage the drive? I don't have any case fans right now, but maybe if I get a huge fan and point it at it will help, that will require a new case though, is all this necessary?

How hot can a HD run and still be OK?

Can't find any data sheets at Quantum, they point you to Maxtor. But it looks like 50C-55C might be average maximum.

yah they get hot. Have a flan blowing under and over them. Now mine are probably 27C.

Maybe thats why peoples 60GXP's die... they be sheep.

They don't all get hot. I've had a 13.6, a 20.4 and a 30.7 Maxtor, all 7200 rpm and cool. Older 7200's did run very hot.
