Hard drives dying on my new KT133A machine

Well, it seems that within 3 days, I first had a maxtor 40 gig drive go belly up on me and then a western digital 60 gig drive die on me on my new machine. It is a duron 600, running on the 133 bus, 7.5 multiplier. The mobo is the Abit KT7A-Raid. I am just running a single hard drive at the moment(at least I am trying to), not a raid setup. Anyone run into these problems or did I just stumble across 2 bad hard drives? After loading win 98 and my software, I get the message, "Not ready writing drive C." I am unable to format the drive or anything else. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks up front for your assistance.

How fast are you running your PCI bus? It could be one of the cause, the other could be your power supply.
