Hard drives disappeared, swapped cables, they're back. Huh?

I've got two hard drives in my system. I turn it on every morning like I usually do and today the system stuck at asking to 'Boot from CD'. I went into BIOs and noticed that the hard drives were no longer there! I take each hard drives SATA & power cables and swap them with each other, and now they work again.

They are the same cords that were in the system before, each belonging to the other hard drive. So what could have happened? The computer just need a reminder that there's hard drives there or what? lol

The were probably just loose. SATA data cables have a tendency to work themselves loose from the vibration of the HDD.

Does this occur even with the clipped SATA cables? I've had this happen before, where simply unplugging then reattaching the cable fixes the problem, but I would assume the clips would hold them in tight enough.

Not as frequently, but it can still happen in the clips are loose or the HDD/Mobo doesn't have a good place for the clip to engage.
