Hard drives are more robust than I thought [pics now, jeez you guys]

• open hard drive
• power on hard drive
• apply propane torch flame to spindle
• wait
• heads deform, scratch platters
• heads melt off, arms scratch platters
• platters keep spinning forever

One drive I'd taken the platters out of kept spinning even after the aluminum spindle melted and flew off.

Guess I won't concern myself with noisy drive bearings any more.

This drive is only slightly red now. It's just the platters, not much left of it, but if anybody would like to see something done to it, speak your piece now.
