I am building a new system for Christmas and was wondering if I need hard drive coolers? Im going to be running a RAID 0 setup so I will need 2. Ill be using a black antec 1040 or something like it probably. Any suggestions or comments?

Depends on what kind of hard drives you'll be using. SCSI usually needs them for intense work, especially 15k drives but not normally for ide 7200 if you dont mount them one on top of the other. I have an antec 830 and its got lots of space for 6 hard drives internally and room to put 80mm fans in front of them as well.
Overall case airflow should be good in your box.

I never used to use hard drive coolers, when my IBM drive died a few weeks back I got a little paranoid about heat. Since then, I've brought a 5¼" HDD cooler for the replacement drive (if it ever arrives that is).

It seem pretty good and it certainly cools the 5¼" drivebays down - a place which is missed by the usual cool-airflow path.
