hard drive

i have an amd 64 with a 300gb hard drive and im running xp pro i also have 1g of ram. my computer fell about 8 inchs from the ground, now the comptuer will not boot up to windows. i think that the hard drive is not going to work any more. is there any way that i would b able to get any of that info off of that drive cuz it is very valible. thanks
 
Check your connections first. That doesn't sound like enough of a drop unless it was running at the time. Disconnect and re-seat all the ribbons and connectors. Reseat all your cards and memory. Make sure the CPU is fully seated.

If it still doesn't work, download the drive manufacturer's drive diagnostic and run the FULL (advanced) test. It'll either pass or fail. If it's under warranty you can get it replaced.

If BIOS detects the hard drive the data should be recoverable even if there's been a head crash. Connect the drive as a spare to another computer and see if you can copy the files from it. There are also file recovery programs like DIY's iRecover.
