Hard drive write theory

Why is it when you defrag it puts most of your important highly used files in the center of the platter of the disc? Is there a program out there for you to choose where to place your most used files on a disc? I would assume since reading speed gains almost 10% at the outer portions of the disk that that is where you would want your files to be.

Ive never heard of a program like that before, but I am replying to see how u like ur motherboard because I am about to purchase one along with the same CPU. So if u could tell me how u like it and if uve had ne problems with it

Notron Speed Disk will do what you are requesting as of Version 2003 it will let you specify on the drive (eg begining or end of the drive) where you would like to put specific files, including the page file.

As noted above, Norton Speed Disk (and probably other programs) will allow you to customize this.

The reason is puts your most-used files in the *middle* of the disk (as opposed to the outside edge) is that this minimizes average seek times. If you put the most-used files on the outside edge, then it has to seek ALL the way back to the inside when you want a file there. With the most-used files in the middle, it usually only has to seek halfway. Unless you're doing something that is totally constrained by STR, improved seek times are usually more beneficial.
