Hard Drive Woes

Hello everyone. I have recently bought a new hard drive, and am having great difficulty with getting it to operate properly. I have prepared it and installed Windows XP Pro on it. However, when I restart after installation, and change my settings so that the hard drive in question is the first boot device, the system gets to :
'Verifying DMI Pool Data...'

And then just stays like that with a blinking cursor. If I have the XP cd in, XP will boot fine as long as I set that as the first boot device.

I really don't know how to fix this situation, I have tried altering boot order but with no luck. Please help!!! Thanks

Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8Neo Platinum
512MB DDR400
Seagate ST380013A (80 GB ATA100 drive)
