I just downloaded SiSoft Sandra and my hard drive scores are low. My score is about a 15000 and sandra says i should get at least a 24000. Everything else seems to be running right at what it should except that. here are my specs.
My Hard Drive is a Western Digital 7200 40.0 gig UDMA 100 Hard Drive. (WDC WD400BB-00CLB0)
I'm using VIA 4.38 Drivers and i downloaded the Via Miniport Driver and also Via Bus Master Utility. It says i am in UDMA 5 (UDMA 1000)
When i went from my sandra score of 8000 to a 15000 my 3d mark jumped up 300 points. WHat is wrong with my hard drive. PLease help i been working on this since 3:00pm est.

Windows XP
AMD 1600 XP Proceor
SOYO Dragon Plus
Geforce III Ti 200
Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer
USR 2976 Modem

Oh BTW i did run the program that came with the hd to put it in UDMA 100... and i am sure i have a udma cable.

IMO, just install VIA 4-in-1 4.38 is enough.
Set your HDD in primary master don't share IDE-0 with other device (CD-ROM, etc.) if you have room.
Depend on how much RAM you have, set your pagefile fixed at 128MB (if you have 256MB RAM) or 256MB (if you have 128MB RAM). I have 768MB RAM, so I disabled pagefile.
Run Disk Defragment (Diskeeper is highly recommended). Go to option and set pagefile at the top of your HDD.
