I haven't really heard of a hard drive dying like this, but let me describe the symptoms it's having.

-This hard drive is a secondary drive in the system

I'll start Windows and it'll be working just fine and dandy. Load up Steam or whatever. First sign of symptoms I had a game crash and completely freeze the comp.

Reboot and it works again, but after letting it sit for an hour or two, the drive isn't detected. Reboot and it still works.

Right now, it isn't detected anymore.

Does anybody know what this could be? Just a dying motor or something?

Could be anything.
From a badly inserted cable, to an electrical gremlin, to a bad controller on the drive or the mainboard... it could even be a bad firmware or driver, in some cases.
Usually mechanical errors make themselves known by some accompanying noise.

I used to run harddrivedatasavers.com with my dad so let me shed what I know.

Can I ask when the drive is working do you hear any awkward noises coming out of the drive ?

When the drive dies on you after a hour or so, do you hear anything at that point ?

Im trying to find out if you hear a clicking sound, if not then the drive is not physically dead. I think what you need to do is run Crystaldiskinfo and see what percentage drive is at and what errors it has.

I would backup everything in the drive to a external or another internal ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

get back to me...
