Hard Drive Temperature

I have an Antec case with a 350 watt power supply. I have four hard drives in there and I just installed a new video card that requires a seperature power plug for the fan. I've notices that one of my hard drives is running at 118 degrees. Is this a normal temperature?

you can try putting heat absorbers between your HD's and then cool'n 'em off with a nice fan, that way your case can be user controlled and redefined to operate for stability of mass storage protection overheating problems

probably just clear off some cables and clean up your case a little and your temps should drop significantly with better airflow.

on another note, fire400 with yet another new pc =]

well, i checked the cables and all is neat and organized. the main fan in the case is running just fine. i'm not sure why only one out of four hard drives is running hot. the one that is running hot has my OS on it. that is the primary drive.

...That's probably why?

I don't know because before I installed this video card all of my drives were operating at around 100 degrees F. Now that I installed the video card that requires a power plug for the fan, that one drive is running hotter. I just find it strange.

Is there a way I can tell if my power supply is stressing?

As of right now, the one drive is at 41 degrees C. That is the lowest right now. Last night it was at around 47 degrees C. The PC is at idle at the moment.

If there's no fan blowing air directly over the hard drives, they probably won't get any airflow. Also, video cards tend to cut ATX case airflow. As SuperNaruto said, we need to see exactly what your system looks like. Most likely the resolution will be to get a fan -- like 80mm; you don't need a huge fan -- to make *some* air go over the drives.

I guess I'll have to take a pic of the interior of my case. The drive that is getting hot is a WD 80gig. All day the drive has be at 43 degree C.
