Hard Drive Temperature 52-55C???

So today I decided to finally install SpeedFan. Now, I've had this PC (this particular HDD) for awhile. I have two 3.5" drives in the case, and this one is the uppermost one. In speedfan, the lower one (a WD) is registering as 24C. This one is registered originally as 55C, and is now down to...52C. This is after having the PC off for 15 minutes and now I have a fan blowing directly on it.

It's a floor fan. :)

So, is there some 'super secret' method to figure out what the actual temperature of the drive is or is the SMART info on the maxtors just useless?

TIA...

Oh wait, now it's 51C. :/ (also, the drive itself does not feel hot at ALL to the touch. quite cool actually).

Since SF does not actually give you detailed temp readings (you have to name them yourself), you might be mistaken on reading the 51C for your HD (could be another component). If not then the SMART info for that HD might be bogus. Another way to find out is use MBM or any other temp monitoring software and compare apples to apples. Thats what I did to name all my temps on SF.

Oh no, it's def. the maxtor HDD. It's quite clear on what drive it is. I even tried 'HDD Temperature' to confirm that it wasn't just the software.

MBM doesnt read S.M.A.R.T. data...at least as far as I have ever seen.

One benefit of this is that I now know that there is only one temp. sensor on my MB that actually functions. (Gigabyte K8NF-9). Seems only the CPU one is connected and the rest just show set values under all circumstances.

What I'm wondering about is definitely that drive though.

if the temp are high? sort of, but its not high enough to be bad. mine drives used to run at 45-49C, now i'm running at 36c, 31c, 33c, 33c
