Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions...
I posted before that i had some problems with my hard drive and windows XP so I ended up just reinstalling WinXP yesterday. After everything was reloaded and I was done for the night I rebooted and it came up with a blue screen saying "unmountable boot volume". I then restarted and it said I had no hard drive installed. I restarted a couple more times and finally got the error again. So I googled that and came up with some answers and did what they said which was
"You can boot to the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter"
I did that when I reboot it just doesnt do anything. I put the drive in another computer and now the drive shows that it is emtpy and only 10 gigs when it is infact a 40 gig drive.
Now I guess what I need to know is all the data gone? Is it possible to try to do some sort of data recovery? (Does Frys/Best buy do this?) I have quite a few items I havent had a chance to back up yet.... Anyone have any suggestions?
Editing to say that 10 gig is what I had in free space *before* i had all these problems. So it seems as if I can only see the 10 gig of free space and nothing where all the data is - is there anything I can do to get at it?
