Hard drive size problem

I have a 8.4 gig seagate drive but windows only sees it as about 4.3 and also formats it only at 4.3. There is only 1 partition on the drive and I don't understand why it's being displayed and formatted at that size. The computer detects it as 8.4 on boot but windows/dos doesn't. Anyone have a clue.

is it partitioned for fat32 or 16? i can't remember the drive limit offhand. at least the bios is new enough to support it.

btw did you read the manual? this should all be explained. recently put a 100gb in a pIII 500 and the bios would only recognize 33gb. read the manual, changed the jumpers, partitioned, boom, 100gb.
