Hard Drive Situation.. What to do?

Hello. I have a minor hard drive dilemma. This is what I have (brand new) and I'm wondering what I should keep.

2- Dell 120 8 MB cache HDD's (Apparently they are the OEM WD JB drives)
1- WD 120 GB JB 8 MB cache (full retail version)
1- WD 60 GB 5400 RPM drive

I was originally going to use the WD 120 8 MB buffer drive for my main drive and the 60 GB 5400 RPM drive for misc storage, but now I went and bought the 2 Dell drives. I'm thinking a RAID setup for down the road, but for now I'd just be using these two 120 GB OEM Drives.

What should I keep? Will I run into heat problems by piggy backing a pair of these drives int he drive bay? I sort of had my mind made up on keeping the 60 gb 5400 RPM drive for storage, but now I don't know..

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

TIA,

Sal

Really depends on what you plan on doing with the system. Those drives are super fast as stand alone, cant say for certain, but would assume that their even faster raided. I have not even seen or heard of anyone using these RAIDed

2- Dell 120 8 MB cache HDD's (Apparently they are the OEM WD JB drives) Would RAID these
1- WD 120 GB JB 8 MB cache (full retail version) Would keep this as my storage

If your case allows it, place a 60/80mm fan infront of the drives to cool them, if you are concerned with the heat 🙂

Wow! What would I do with 360 gb's of space? Too bad that there isn't a cheaper, smaller capacity drive with an 8 mb cache because I don't know if I'd trust saving any information on these 120 gb OEM drives if I RAIDed them at this point.

What I thought about doing is keeping both 120 GB OEM drives and using one for storage and one for my main drive, then later I could RAID these and buy another storage drive. I'd probably sell the retail 120 gb because I'd probably make more money on that drive. The 60 gb 5400 rpm drive would be nice to have as backup because it's probably quiet and runs cooler, but it seems puny by comparison and it also seems sort of silly to have a 120 gb drive as my main drive and a 60 gb drive for storage.

I don't know.. I love your suggestion InsaneMorpheus, but to have almost $500 tied up just in hdd's would seem a little insane to me. Would be nice though.

Oh.. BTW.. My current mobo doesn't support RAID, so I'd have to buy a RAID card. Any suggestions on a good card if I do go this route?

Thanks again for your suggestions.
