One of the guys that post here, that has put together many PCs, turned me on to these
vibration damping grommets, hi-damp PVC, ID Ribbed, .158" hole dia.,.057" groove.
$8.49 for a pack of 25. At
www.mcmaster.com/ #9311k138. These are the smallest ID ones they have.
Difficulties: I had to locate and order longer screws and tiny fender washers.
Since i could not locate mounting screws with a shoulder as EAR uses and my case is 2mm thick. I will use very thin vinal tubing to go over the screw to fill a slight excess of clearance and provide a lite duty shoulder for the screw to stop on when installing. To prevent the screws from loosening, a very sparing amount of Blue Loc-Tite will be used on the threads. W/O a primer Loc-Tite sets-up in 24hours. A good screw driver will be able to remove them in the future. The Loc-Tite and vinal tubing I allready had. All threads must be oil free and dry, prior to using Loc-Tite.
I have allready notched the mounting slots with a small rat-tail file to accept the grommets where I want them. I have two old Lian-Li cases, to mod and more time than money. This is why I'm going to all this effort. The EARs are very nice indeed but the price is too dear for opticals and HDs in two cases.
Reseaching rubber mounting HDs, I came across a recomendation to ground the drives to prevent a static charge from building up on it's enclosure. It was at SPCR or 7Volt. This I will do as its not a biggie.
Just felt like posting.
