Hard drive shows up as removable device?

well in the corner by the clock there is an icon for remove hardware, and when i click on it brings up my wd raptor HD. why would this be showing up?? also i cant seem to connect to the internet on my new system. when i go control pannel>network connections, the only thing that shows up as connected is the 1394 connection?? did i disable something in the bios on accident?
