Hard Drive Running in PIO Mode ?

Hey, I was wondering, why on earth is my Hard Drive (alone on primary IDE channel) running in PIO mode whilst my CD drives are running using DMA (both on secondary IDE channel) ... I can't seem to be able to change the primary to run using DMA, I'm in XP and it's set to:

Primary Channel Device 0:

Device Type: Auto detection

Transfer Mode: DMA if available

Current Transfer Mode: PIO Mode

meanwhile

Secondary Channel Device 0 & Device 1:

Device Type: Auto detection

Transfer Mode: DMA if available

Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2

Why is this happening?

Gigabyte GA-7VT600, 512MB Kingston PC-333 RAM, 80GB Seagate 7200rpm alone on IDE Channel 1, AOpen CD-RW drive, channel 2 master, Samsung DVD,CD-RW combo slave IDE channel 2(Windows XP) ... NO FLOPPY!

help anyone?

If WinXP detects too many errors on the IDE channel, it slows down the speed until no more errors are encountered.

Make sure your cables are in good order and do what ScrapSilicon said.

This will reset XP's error counter and it should turn your DMA back on.

If it keeps occurring, then you need to suspect trouble.

Thaks that fixed it. I'll keep this in mind.

Does anyone know why I would have so many errors as to cause it to slow down ?
