Hard Drive RMA Question

I sent in a hard drive to Western Digital for RMA. This maybe a stupid question but do they give you a new drive or a refurb drive? (My guess is a refurb) What's their warranty with the replacement drive? Thanks.

It sometimes depends on what they have in stock, new or refurb. Warranty should be the same expiration date as the drive you sent back. Came in a white box, HDD was inside a sealed static bag. HDD looked new to me.

RMA a 9 month old Maxtor 100GB got back 160GB. 😀

refurbs are sent out as replacements more often than not.

You always get a bare drive in a sealed ESD bag...and if you email the RMA department to ask, they'll tell you it's a refurb.

They don't extend the warranty period. So the drive that I sent back has a warranty expiration date of 1/15/05, so that means that the new(refurb) drive only has warranty 'til then? I thought that maybe you get a year with that drive.
