Does anyone know of a shareware program to possibly recover data from a trashed hard drive. I have a user that has trashed his laptop drive, and now he is crying that he has a meeting next Monday, and ,Of course, he didn't back it up. I owe this guy a few favors, or I would tell him "Sorry Charlie!" Help!

chuck, I believe there is a good reason that data recovery services get paid HUGE dollar amounts to recover data... Dont waste your time... I tried once, but after a week and many wasted hours, I gave up. Anyone else maybe have the magical answ3r he's looking f0r?

this probably wont be much help but i think ontrack (www.ontrack.com) has a shareware program that will find data that can be recovered. Then if you see that the data is recoverable, you can "buy" (*cough*warez*cough) the full version program and use it.

LOL (i like the *cough*warez*cough* part :p). I'll give that a shot if I need it. Thanks DJ Fuji.

Thanks anyway, guys, the EasyRecovery didn't work. This drive is really toasted! I already told him it was, just hoped I could surprise him. I just had some extra time, off today at noon for a 4 day holiday, and didn't want to get involved in any big project.
Thanks for the input anyway.
