Hard drive recognition

I just formatted one of my drives on my computer, I have 2 though. The one that was formatted works great, but now my machine isn't recognizing the 2nd drive, what can I do to get my comp to recognize this second drive without having to re-format the drive?

Try different jumper settings. If you are using ATA 66/100 ribbon or rounded cable, you can try "CS" as well as MA or SL.

Try a different cable. Try a DOS floppy boot and see if it is there. Could be a bad connection on the cable.

I don't think it's the cable... like I said, I just re-formatted, it's not like the cable went bad between the time it took me to format the drive until now. It worked before.... I'll check the jumpers... but again, I haven't changed anything on that either. That's the same as it was before.

It's a recognition thing by the machine.

when you say its not recognized, do you mean its not showing up in the drive detection list when you start your system? or do you mean the operating system is not allowing you to access it?

elzmaddy is asking if the drive is showing up in the bios during post or not .
My computer ---> C: drive visible... D: drive not visible
that would be the operating system. look at the post and see if it's detected , or if you can't see the device list there , go into the bios and lookfor it.
good luck
