I was wondering...Let's say I have 2 IBM Deskstar 60GXP (20GBs) connected 2 the highpoint raid of epox 8k7a+ and than i get a SCSI (10,000RPM) drive
Could I do..
a) connect all 3 via raid even if i have 2 get an extra raid etc.. (and explain how it works plz)
OR/AND
b)Connect 1 Deskstar 60GXP and 1 SCSI(10,000RPM) Drive via raid?

So Could i do a, b or both?

Software RAID, yes. But you won't be able to boot from it. And I wouldn't recommend it :D

None of the above.

For the hardware RAID to work, all the drives have to be attached to the same controller.

also

a) would not work because IDE RAID only supports two devices per channel, so even if you had more space to mount
IDE drives, you would need to add two more to get any extra RAID support.

b) would also not work... In theory if you had two similar drives, one IDE and one SCSI, and an OS that allowed for
software RAID support, you could set them up so that both drives share common storage space to give the OS a
larger filesystem to work with. But that still would not work with the configuration you propose, becuase a
7200rpm drive and a 10000rpm drive are too different in performance to compensate for the difference in timing
file transfers within the drivespace created from the two. You might get it to work, but you would soon end up
with corrupted files.
