Hard drive question

BUTCH1

Lifer
Hello all, I am going to replaceing a dying quantum drive with a new seagate.
the quantum still loads the OS and everything else but it's really slow at this
point, Maxblast reports " drive is failing" my question is can I just mirror this
partition onto the new drive or should I just bite the bullet and do a complete
OS install? Thanks in advance for advise/opinions...

I wouldn't attempt it. Do a fresh install on the new drive. Others will flame me and say you can but why mirror any potential data corruption, etc. that you have now, just do a fresh install.

Right! Quantum hard drives were acquired by Maxtor in April, 2001, and are currently supported by them. Clean install in this case.

Yea I'm gonna start fresh, the Quantum was only 4 years old
7200 rpm drive so I figured it was worth a shot wifey's comp.
anyway, even 20 gig was a huge drive for her..
