Hard Drive Question

This may seem like a silly question, but which drive prerforms quicker?

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s

or

Western Digital Raptor 74GB 3.5" Serial ATA150

I understand that the 10,000RPM Raptor is like a rocket, but does the 3GB/s SATA provide any kind of solice? OR are they completely unrelated?

I am looking for a fast drive as a primary OS drive and have my current 200GB Barracuda as my storage drive. I like something quiet so I am lenient towards Seagate, but 10,000 RPM is 10,000RPM.

The 1.5Gb/s spec has not been maxed out by the current HD's so 3Gb/s won't make a difference. 10k RPM will make the system snappier, I'd personally go that route but it's a question of value. For the price of the raptor you can get a good 320 gig HD.

The value is not an issue. I have a great 200GB drive right now. But I would like to have a fast drive for my OS and keep my 200GB HD as a storage drive for everything else taking up space.

When I had a 10K RPM SCSI drive it made the system noticeably snappier. The OS loads faster, programs open sooner and file transfers on that drive happen quicker. As I said, I would do it. But it's an $90 price difference which is not insignifigant.
