Hard Drive Question

Ok, im planning on reformatting my PC because it is becoming sluggish. Anyway, I bought a WD 160GB IDE drive and copied the contents of my boot drive (120GB SATA) onto it. Remembering that when I first put the WD drive in, I had to format and partition it to show up in Windows. Since I already have partitioned and formatted, is it a good bet it will show up in Windows so I can copy my files back onto my newly formatted drive?

So my question is, when I reformat my Boot Drive, will my WD (backup) drive show up in My Computer at the first boot in Windows?

Husk,

Before you format your boot drive, boot from it and see if you can read the contents of your IDE drive.

BTW... Welcome to the Forums.

What do you mean boot from it? Like go into Windows?

Well, it is recognized now, but for it to be recognized (When I first put it in) I had to use the WD Disc to partition and format it.

when you format your boot drive, you will have no operating system installed

are you prepared to reinstall your OS staring from boot floppies/cds?

however, yes, once you get an operating system installed, it shouldn't have any trouble reading the drive you copied stuff to earlier

If it's a seperate drive it should show when you boot-up. If it's a seperate partition you should see it after you install windows.

Install windows and go from there
