In windows 2000, every 3rd rebooot or so would check for errors on the disk, it would take hours for it to finish, it would check for file space etc. and would replace blocks in some files. Now that i have install linux mandrake, i get this error when booting: "Error raeding block "4566571" (Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read) while doing inode scan. Ignore error? yes"
This error happens on every boot up, and goes on for over and hour.
I have a 30 gig Maxtor hard drive which i have purchased about 2 weeks ago. When ever i boot up, the hard drive makes some weird sounds, not exactly a beep, but close to it. Do you think i should change the hard drive? Could that be the only problem?
Thanks
