Hard Drive problem...

When I try to explore the hard drive in my computer, it says:

"f:\ is not accessible. Error performing inpage operation."

It is recognized by the BIOS.

Change of plans...a pin is gone. Does anyone have any experience with soldering the pin back in?

Thanks in advance.

Those old Atari joystick ports were notorious for losing ping, so we came up with an easy albeit ghetto fix: stick a paper clip in the joystick plug so that it corresponds with the missing pin and makes contact with what's left of it. I suppose you could do the same thing with an IDE connector.
If you're really careful, you could even put some conductive adhesive on the tip of the pin so that it sticks to broken stub for a more permanent fix.

Really? I actually joked with my friend about using a paper clip, but I wasn't too sure about how it would stand up. At this point, I just want it to work long enough to get the data off of it. Thanks for the reply.

I had this problem after one of my many installs. A pin near the middle was gone and it worked in PIO but not DMA. Turned out the pin was not broken but it had been pushed inside (I hope this wasn't caused by me being dumb enough to put the cable on backwards). Opened up it, pulled it into position, and it was fine. Might be a possibility for you.
