I just installed a new hard drive in my system. It is a Western Digital 120gb WD1200JB with the 8mb buffer. It is the only drive and it is partitioned into 2.
Everything seems to work ok except when I go into Windows Explorer or PowerFile (Explorer replacement) to view contents of a folder. It is especially noticeable when I am listing folders which contain a large amount of jpgs. It takes forever for the system to display the dataset names along with the icon associated for the file type. Windows Explorer displays the list of files almost immediately and then completes showing the associated icon at the rate of about 1 per second. Power file does not display anything until it has the icon so it will list the dataset with its icon again at about 1 per second. If I have a large folder, the process may take a minute or so to complete.
I am wondering if this is normal for a drive with an 8 mb cache but in any case, it is intolerable.
Thanks for the help.
