Hard drive problem seagate 2.1

I bought a used seagate 2.1 gig hdd on the buy sell forum. It does not get recognized on any jumper setting or any of the 3 machines I have tried in in. Nothing recognizes it in the bios or auto or even when you user config it with inputting the numbers. The drive seems to power up, I can hear it when I turn on the machine. I have tested other drives and even downloaded seagate software to test it, but it says no hdd found. It does test other seagate drives (the sotware). I am at wits end. The machine it was in before he said was a Gateway firewall (windows 2000 sever and linux).

Can anyone help me as to what to do???
